Why "I work for someone else" doesn't mean you're covered

Working as a 1099 contractor for a tutoring platform, learning center, or school means you're operating your own small business — even if all your leads come through someone else's brand. If a parent files a claim against you personally, the center's or platform's policy often doesn't extend to cover you as an individual, and you're left exposed. A policy in your own name closes that gap, whether or not the organization you work through carries its own coverage.

General Liability

Covers bodily injury or property damage during sessions — regardless of whose platform or classroom you’re working in.

Professional Liability (E&O)

Covers claims that your instruction was negligent — a claim against you personally isn’t automatically covered by the organization you contract with.

Abuse & Molestation

Many schools and centers require contractors to carry this coverage individually before allowing them to work with minors on-site.

Add the Center as Additional Insured

If your center or school requires it, you can add them as additional insured on your own policy after purchase.

Frequently asked

I tutor through a platform or center. Does their policy cover me?

Usually not. As an independent contractor, you're running your own business even when the work comes through someone else's brand. In most cases a claim against you personally needs your own policy, separate from whatever coverage the platform or center carries for itself.

My center said they have a custom insurance link. Should I use that instead?

If your center gave you a specific link, use that one — it automatically names your center as additional insured on your policy, which is exactly what most centers require. If you don't have a link from your center, you can apply directly here.

Can I get same-day proof of insurance?

Yes — individual and independent-contractor tutor policies can typically be issued the same day, with a certificate of insurance available immediately after purchase.

Run a center and want to cover all your independent tutors at once?

If you're the one hiring independent tutors rather than working as one, set up a custom link for your center instead — every tutor buys their own policy through it, and your center is automatically named as additional insured.
